The Badsha Group marks a new milestone for Bangladesh’s textile industry with the launch of an innovative wool-cotton yarn, developed by Pioneer Denim – a group company and a leading denim manufacturer – in collaboration with a top Australian partner. This initiative blends research, technology, and sustainability, driven by the vision of founder and owner Mohiuddin Ahmed.
Merino wool yarns from Australia
For more than two years, Pioneer Denim’s Research & Development department has been working closely with a major Australian company to design a yarn that combines the look and texture of denim with the natural benefits of wool: warmth, breathability, and comfort. A solution designed for the most demanding markets and for consumers who value quality.
«It was the owner himself who pushed this project forward, traveling to Australia to collaborate with one of the oldest sheep farms and to develop Merino wool yarns, renowned for their thermoregulatory properties – says Christian Reca, Worldwide Marketing & Merchandising Manager at Pioneer Denim–. We started with one ton of yarns and today we are already producing on an industrial scale».
The goal: more wool in denim fabric
«At the moment, the wool content in a denim fabric is generally capped at around 50%, – Reca continues – but our goal is to reach 70% in order to deliver garments that are even warmer than traditional denim».
The entire production cycle is carried out within a fully vertical supply chain: from yarn composition to fabric manufacturing, dyeing, and garment making. This process also includes an in-house laundry equipped with cutting-edge technologies and eco-friendly washing methods, supported by some of the world’s leading suppliers.
«Through research we managed to develop a completely new dyeing process – Reca adds – one that preserves the integrity of wool while achieving a true indigo shade. The same method is also applied to black and PPT, the ready-to-dye version».
Pioneer Denim goes beyond yarn production
Pioneer Denim’s activities go beyond yarn production: the company also manufactures finished garments for major international brands. «The new fabric is positioned for an upper mid-range clientele, given the cost of Merino wool, but our aim – concludes Christian Reca – is to make the product more accessible to mass-market brands through economies of scale and large-scale production».
The innovative yarn has already received very positive feedback and represents a key milestone in Pioneer Denim’s strategy, as the company continues to explore alternative raw materials. Among these are pineapple fibers, which have already been transformed into fabrics and garments currently available in stores.
